El Ávila - La JuliaThe national park El Avila, that separates the city of Caracasfrom the coast, offers many excursions. One of these excursions is to the national park ranger’s place of “La Julia” located 1140 meters above sea level.
This is one of most simple excursion that you can make in this national park, and our recommendation if you take small children with you. The raise is from the neighborhood of El Marques, through the Boyaca Avenue, also known as the “Cota Mil”.
Just starting our excursion, you have a nice view of Caracas.
The beginning of the raise is pretty steep. It is a wide path, under the eucalyptuses. At the end of this great raise, the excursionist has an alternative. Either follow the path (to the right), which is stoned later on, and is also the most direct way, but also more difficult, or he can take the path that constantly curve the raise in a nicer and softer way, in the middle of the jungle. |

The journey to the national park rangers place lasts about 30 minutes (Of course those who are more athletic can get to it in less time). In “La Julia” the visitors can make some physic exercise (bars and weight lifting), watch the birds and squirrels, or meditate.
La Julia is the first stop in the excursion to the highest point of the Avila, the Pico Naiguata (Naiguata Peak), or to “El Paraiso” (The Paradise). In order to visit these places you must register with the Park Ranger and obtain the corresponding permission..
