Escalones del Pico Occidental

After arriving to "No te Apures", we continue our ascension to the summit of the mountain. The raise is strong, the vegetation is thick. The roots from the trees are useful as steps. The temperature is little by little transforming nicer.

El hotel Humboldt

Suddenly, there is a sudden change in the vegetation. We left behind those big trees and now we have in front of us small bushes. This also allows us to sea at our same level the Humboldt Hotel (El Avila Peak, which is 2200 meters above sea level). You also have a spectacular view of the city.

Only a few minutes after, you arrive to the “ Asiento de la Silla de Caracas” (the Chair of Caracas). This little place is right in the middle of a bifurcation. To the left, the path leads you to the Western Peak (2.480 meters), to the right the Eastern Peak (2620 meters). We continue to our goal, the Western Peak.

Soon after you have a new reward to the effort you have made: The view to the Central Littoral, this means the sea and the population of Caraballeda, which is in the coast, in the other side of the mountain. The vegetation from the coast-side is also different. You can watch far away some palms in the abrupt hillside of the mountain.

Nevertheless, one of the best attractions of the place is a huge rock that outstands above the empty. Those without fear to the heights can enjoy of an unforgettable experience, admiring the view, with their feet hanging over the empty.

If you continue walking a little to the West, you will soon see bellow you the Humboldt Hotel and, to the right, the population of Galipán. The path – called the “Fila Maestra” (Master Row), is one of the most beautiful of the Avila. In a clear day you can see in one side the city and in the other one they see. If you continue walking through this path you’ll get to “Lagunazo” and later on to the Humboldt Hotel.
