In the East part of the Canaima, in the middle of the region known as the Gran Sabana, we can find the biggest tepuy among all the tepuys: The Roraima.
The tepuys are those rare mountains, verticals with plain tops. These mountains have very big vertical walls.
Among all tepuys, only some like the Roraima and the Auyantepui can be visited on foot, without any climbing gear, thanks to a “ramp” nearby the vertical rock-wall.

Of course, its possible to reach the top by helicopter, but those who decide these option can’t enjoy the vegetation on the way up, abundant in orchids and ferns, and also some great views.

Another view of the Kukenan, from the summit of the Roraima.
The summit of the Roraima is completely rocky. It has sculpted formations because of the water and wind impact giving it diverse figures. Puddles are very common, many of them like small vegetation islands. In some cases, we can appreciate a small garden in half a square meter.

The Roraima has very interesting points. The “Maverick”, called like this due to its likeliness to the figure of the car with this name, is the highest point reaching 2725 meters above sea level. The “Jacuzzis” are some small circular natural pools.

The Jacuzzis

Bridge over the Jacuzzis
The “triple point”, called like this because it symbolizes the border between Venezuela, Brasil and the Guayana Esequiba (Reclamation Zone). At this point there is a reference that marks this point. Near this point, we can find the “crystal valley” (called this way due to its quartz rock abundance) and the trench, a big hole in a rock with water, where those who are brave can have a shower (because its very cold).

From the “Abyss” you can see the north part of the Tepuy, also called the “bow”. In order to get close to the edge, it’s recommended to do it lying on the floor down faced and with a person grabbing you by your feet.

Roraima offers many excellent camping places called the “Hotels”. These camping places are under a big rock that offers a nice shelter against the always frequent rain, the wind, and cold.
The temperatures at night can reach bellow 12 Celsius grades and, in some seasons, can reach bellow 0 Celsius grades.
