On Friday January 29, 2010, the fabulous Coche Island received by 3 days the participants of the Second Kite Festival ... to be a historic event as it brought together the largest number of kiter's in any event in the history of Venezuelan sport: More than 160 participants, aged between 16 and 55, from 8 different states of Venezuela and sister nations including Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, USA, Greece, France, Great Britain and Russia.
This event brought together professional and amateur Kiters that practice this sport since its beginning, providing the opportunity to enjoy the island's excellent exhibition of the sport for 3 consecutive days. In addition, they have shared their experiences, stories, and enjoyed a bonfire on the shore with excellent music on La Punta beach.
It was an event dedicated to promoting Coche Island as a great tourist destination in Venezuela, as well as promoting the practice of outdoor sports activities, and environmental awareness.
Coche Island has also performed for 4 consecutive years the PKRA World Kite and in 2009 organized with equal success the first Kite Festival.
The organizers are already adjusting the details of upcoming events at Coche Island for all lovers of kite surfing, starting with a school, for male and female, scheduled for March, they prepare to receive afterwards a group from Russia that will let themselves be seen by the island in the middle of May. An Extreme Camp during school holidays is prepared for the children. Invitations are opened for the International Documentary Festival Kite III to be held in January 2011 ...
