Hato La Fé Corozopando
Excursion to The Canal
The excursion to the river is a very interesting experience. You leave the farm La Fe, by truck or horse to scour two Kms to the canal. Possibly, it will be Zorra, the dog of the lodge who will accompany you to the excursion.
When you reach the end of the canal, you will see a beautiful fall during the rainy season. Once in there you get into a small aluminum boat with an off board motor guided by Juan who takes us to a fascinating tour by the canal.
The landscape of the canal is beautiful. Under the palm trees of the Llano, you can see some rushes and trees where you there are lots of birds. Peter, the guide, points you out where to look and watch the birds, the tortoises, the red monkeys and any other animal or tree that could be interesting.
In some occasions, the dog called "Zorra" (in English female fox) jumps into the water and swims following the boat. If the hosts want it, the dog accompanies them during the excursion. Of course, as any dog, when Zorra gets out of the water she shakes off the water and you may get wet. Of course it is very refreshing!
Here is a small sample of the birds you can see during the excursion by the canal.
Chenchena
Gabán Peonío
Martín Pescador
Chicuaco
Pichón del chicuaco
Tortoise
When somebody gets close to the nest of a bird, specially to the chenchena´s, these start to crow daringly so that you don't get close to its pigeons, which won't move, as if they were posing for a photograph. However, one of the most curious things is when a family of red monkeys (araguatos) starts to defecate in order to keep the visitors away.
