One of the best excursions in "Hato Piñero" is piranha fishing. After a nice half an hour ride from the main house, in the middle of the forest, the truck stops and the passengers take a short walk to the river.
As piranhas are meat eaters, the bait is raw meat. You have to be careful to completely cover the hook.
The fishing spot is very nice. It has grass but also mud. So watch your step, or be ready to clean your shoes. Fishing is done with a hand line.
Below is a picture of your goal. Piranhas are gray with an orange underbelly. While you are fishing a savannah hawk watches with attention.
Suddenly, the waited moment arrives. Click here to enjoy it. You have to be very careful when you take the fish off the hook. Look at the picture below and see the teeth. They are sharp as a razor.
Some are big, some are small. However, the emotion of catching a piranha is always big.
Here is a proud family (from Massachusetts) posing with their hard fought trophy.
After a couple of hours, back to camp where the kitchen will prepare the catch of the day.
