Cabello Port (Puerto Cabello)


San Felipe Fortress

Puerto Cabello is situated in Venezuelan central coast .It is one of the two most important harbors in the country, from the economic as well as the historic point of view. The town was founded in the 16th century, on this strategic spot, which allowed the Spanish navy easy disembarkation. Port activities have been crucial for the economic and social development of the town.

This harbour had a considerable economic relevance in the Colony, since from here cocoa, coffee, cotton, indigo and other appreciated agricultural supplies were shipped to the Netherlands Antilles.

From the pier you can watch the sea and the impressive San Felipe Fortress also known as Castillo del Libertador (The Liberator's Castle) that in the Colony, protected the city from the pirates' constant assaults.

From Solano Fort that was built by the famous Compañia Guipuzcoana in 1732 at the entrance of the city, you can have a general view of the harbour and the town.

Surrounding Bolívar Square you will find the Municipal Council House and the beautiful San Jose Church built in coral stone.
