Maturín
Maturin can be considered the oil capital from eastern Venezuela. With the discovery of the Furrial deposit, in the north of the State of Monagas, in the 80’s. The oil impulse in Maturin has been amazing. This can be noticed when you arrive to the airport, decorated with a balancin.

The center of Maturin is worthwhile to visit, particularly the Bolivar Square where there are many trees that give the place a fresh sensation. The Government’s Palace, the main office of the Government of Monagas is in one of the sides of the Bolivar Square. On the other side, we find the San Simon Church, a colonial construction of the XVIII century, and the most important church until the building of the cathedral.

Inaugurated in 1981, the Cathedral of “Nuestra Senora del Carmen” is considered one of the most modern cathedrals in Latin America. It has very beautiful windows that decorate its interior.
In the square of “ Juana La Avanzadora”, there’s a statue in commemoration to Juana Ramirez, a heroine from Monagas that defended the city during the Independence War..
From the parks of Maturin, the Municipal Park La Guaricha stands out among the other parks. This park is located at the end of the Bolivar Avenue. It has an artificial lagoon, a little train that crosses the park, a lot of free space and a small zoo.

The multi sports complex was inaugurated in 1982. It has a gym, pools, athletics field, and the football fields that we see in this photo.
Maturin counts with several shopping centers, like the Monagas Plazas and the Petro Oriente.

The Maturin Carnivals are acquiring more fame every year. The Regional Government, the Municipality from Maturin and an important group of companies and personalities are making their best effort to make the carnivals a greater event each year. Maturin is the most popular starting point to visit the Guacharo Caves (Soon in Venezuelatuya) and also to go to the Orinoco Delta. It’s 45 minutes south from Maturin in San Jose de Buja, where you take the boats that translate you to one of the tourist destines we promote, the Boca de Tigre Camp.
