Caribe river
At 22 kilometers from Carupano is located Rio Caribe, a small fishermen village. It is also the entry point for the beaches in Paria: Playa Medina and Puy Pui.
This village, besides its intense fishing activity, has a beautiful architecture, as you can see in this church, built in 1717 and reconstructed in 1919, and in the chapels of "El Calvario" (left) and "San Miguel Arcangel", in the neighbooring hills.
In the morning, when fishermen arrive, most of the village goes by the sea or to the market, to wait the "catch of the day". A lot of birds are also around, trying to have their catch, too.
One the main attractions in Rio Caribe is its colonial style houses, from the end of the 19th century.
Close to Rio Caribe is located "El Morro", also a fishermen village.
